Yea! The room mate selections are in! Whether you are in with your BFF or going”potluck” or random, you’d be wise to consider the 4 c’s.

The 4 c’s

Communicate- First and foremost, get to know each other, your likes/dislikes. Discuss budgets.

Room arrangement. Sides of the room, upper/lower bunk etc… Remember to be open to new
Ideas and input.

Collaborate- give and take. Establish who is bring what items and try to keep bigger ticket items evenly distributed.

Decide what is needed ie refrigerator,tv,cable ,rugs, furniture.

Colorize- try to blend your tastes but have your own style. Maybe invert or reverse the colors for a Jack and Jill look.

Or both use the same main colors and have separate accents in pillows/bulletin boards etc.Have fun!

Customize- add things that inspire you! Put your own stamp on the room. Let creativity rule! Think of inexpensive ways to decorate your wall.

5. Cleanliness!
   … have a scheduled clean/organize time built into your busy life! Ok… guilty.. the Mom in me comes out!

Cleaning Bucket. Fill up a darling bucket with Clorox wipes, air freshners, comet, Windex etc…

After a recent trip to my daughter’s dorm room, I realize the need for a cleaning products bucket.I know this isn’t the fun thing to spend your limited budgeted funds, however, it is a necessity!

Maybe this will inspire the domestic goddess within!

1.  Comfort - Those dorm mattresses are often...how can I say it?...rough and uncomfortable and covered in plastic. Start by getting a great mattress pad.

2.  I suggest a topper such as a thick memory foam or a feather bed.  Hint...buy the extra cover for these as the toppers themselves can't be laundered and accidents
happen!

3.  Once you've decided on the bed height, add a bed skirt to hide all the "stuff" under your bed. The better you organize under the bed the less work you'll have later hunting for all of your "stuff".

4.  Now for the bedding... I have found that you LOVE duvets. They offer the ability for you to easily change them out and launder them.

5.  Get a duvet insert.  I find the poly fill to be the more affordable and allergy resistant. And girls like the lighter feel and fact that they hold their shape better.

6.  Once you've filled your duvet (or added the comforter if your prefer) add the CUFF for a stylish finish!

7.  Get great sheets!! Many people like the softness of the jersey knits, or cotton sateen's.  We offer a full range of thread counts.

8.  Now for the pillows.  As you'll spend a lot of time STUDYING in your
room, so make sure you have great comfortable pillows as your bed will often butt up to the cold cinder block walls.  Load up with comfortable pillows. You will love the flexibility of reversible D2D pillows and their invisible zippers make it so that they can be easily cleaned or switched out!  These are FUN!

9.  Add comfy blankets!! Carefully coordinated.
